since 1993.
Our business is operated residentially, so we don’t take customers at the house. We are located in southern Virginia near Altavista.
Choosing the right contractor, to welcome into your home or business is a very personal choice. Ultimately the best factors to consider that are the most reputable are their licensure, they experience, their reviews and letters of recommendation, and of course, their overall reputation, any complaints, their portfolio and if you need additional information on a specific painter, you can always call your local Sherwin Williams and ask if they would recommend them. But specifically for choosing residential painters, how clean are they? How clean is their equipment? Do they wear a uniform?
It is absolutely vital to hire a licensed painting contractor or company, licensed in the state that you’re in. It’s also important to hire an insured painter, as well as a recommended one.
We are licensed as a class B contractor in the state of Virginia with city permits to work as well as thoroughly insured and bonded.
contractor's bond policy ("bonded") has nothing to do with passing a security check. It means that there is a limited insurance policy in place if the contractor can't or won't finish your project.

Yes. Both owners work on all their jobs. Caitlin began in 2018 as company manager, but has been back with us since 2022. In early 2020 she had 4 strokes from a hereditary clotting predisposition, in combination With a side effect from birth control (it can cause vascular issues like strokes and heart attacks in some people). After performing the first brain surgery to save her life, she had a brain bleed and heart attack and they had to perform more emergency surgeries. These also caused their own problems as complications occurred from these as well. Because of the location and severity of the strokes she was told she would never walk, talk or work again, and after years of therapy she is walking, talking and back to work too!
We have gone cross country many times, and all along the East Coast. However, our most frequented locations are listed on our homepage. Or feel free to call for more information!
Yes we can match to any color. We’ve never had an issue with our color match.
Spraying and "brush & roll" are both acceptable ways to apply paint as long as the paint is put on at the proper spread rate (sq. ft./gallon). Spraying will provide a smoother appearance but is difficult to touch up. Brushing and rolling paint doesn't give as smooth an appearance as spraying, but is easier to touch up. Some people say that sprayed paint will not adhere as well as brushed & rolled paint but, if the surface is totally clean, both methods will adhere properly. Peeling problems can arise when sprayed paint is applied to a partially cleaned or dirty wall or surface. Depending on the surface to be painted and the condition and location it is in, a quality paint applicator will decide whether a spray or brush & rolled application technique is the best choice for the project.
Typically , the way we conduct business for consultations is via an in person walk-through at the physical location with the owner or who we will be directly doing business with. However, in some cases we do provide phone estimates, but, this is for general information purposes only. In some cases, we will provide estimates digitally via a specific software we use
while we do have multiple crews the owners work on all jobs.
Most home and business owners are comfortable with us using the restroom on site because our crew is so clean. but if different arrangements need to be made, we can leave and go to the nearest public restroom.
for long-term out of state projects typically we find room and board for rent in the area but if it’s close enough to home, we will drive back and stay there.
While we are very upfront with our pricing, it would be unfair for everyone if we had set prices for services. Each price we give is dependent on multiple factors. We do this because each job we do is custom for the customer as well. Some of the factors we use to calculate pricing are:
-cost of materials
-estimated price of labor for estimated completion date.
-room and board (may apply)
-cost of lift (may apply)
- square footage
- the current situation (how much repair work?, is it a correction?, etc.)
-what’s desired (is it a full exterior paint with multiple color changes? How many coats will be needed to make this change successfully?, etc.)
-level of danger to complete job
-our availability(may apply)
- Seasonal discounts (may apply)
-referral discounts (may apply)
-friends & family discount (may apply)
VOC stands for "Volatile Organic Compound." "Volatile" describes a liquid that evaporates at room temperature. "Organic" means a compound that contains carbon. Thousands of VOC's, some natural and some man-made can be found in the air. Most natural VOC's are emitted from sources like trees and vegetation. The primary man-made sources of VOC's are motor vehicle exhaust, unburned gasoline, and solvents.
Generally, yes. The quality of low VO C paints has greatly improved in recent years. Feel free to use low, VOC paints and expect the same quality as conventional paints.
Yes. Many low VOC paints and no BOC paints still contain synthetic chemicals. Natural paints claim to be made from only natura occurring materials. our customers have been very satisfied with both types. If one has a sensitivity to paint odors or chemicals, it’s best to research various brands of paint and make an informed decision about what is best for you.
No. It is not recommend to use an interior-labeled paint on exterior surfaces. Interior paints are designed specifically for use on interior surfaces. Interior paints don't have the flexibility, strength or UV protective elements to stand up to exterior conditions. If you use interior paint on your exterior, expect it to fail, get moldy, or peel quickly.
Do not use exterior paints for interior painting. Exterior paints have flex and other chemical qualities that make them suitable for exterior use only. Exterior paints are engineered to flex with heat and cooling of temperature changes. They don't get to do this on interiors and will crack and peel prematurely.
Use interior paints for interiors and exterior paints for exteriors. They have been manufactured this way and tested this way to ensure longevity and success.
A paint coating can fail due to moisture, poor surface preparation, low-quality paint, incompatible paint, incorrect application, or exposure to the elements. These factors can cause issues such as peeling, cracking, chalking, or fading of the paint. Proper surface preparation, use of high-quality paint, correct application techniques, and protecting surfaces from moisture and the elements help ensure a long-lasting and durable paint job.
When it comes to paint coverage, not all colors are equal. Bright, clean yellows, oranges and reds often require special primers and multiple coats to provide full coverage. Often times dark colors do as well.
It's best to paint using a light neutral color. Light neutrals have a wide appeal and will make everyone feel at home. additionally, bright colors make the space feel larger. And specifically when reselling your home light neutrals will make your home sell faster. It’s a great option for businesses as well as it will appeal to such a wide variety of demographics coming in.
